A day of celebration of African and Caribbean culture
Last year marked the Bicentenary of the Abolition of Slavery Act and events were held all over the country to bring this to the country's attention. Museums in Essex were involved in putting together an exhibition telling the story of the impact of Slavery on people in Essex, from the owners of large estates like Hylands to the Chelmsford Abolitionist, Anne Knight. This exhibition - The Longest Journey: From Slavery to Abolition - is now on at Chelmsford Museum until 25 August.
From 10am to 4.30pm ZamZam Drumming will provide entertainment and you will have the opportunity to join in, you can try Caribbean food, listen to the story of Anne Knight, make an African-style mask, buy Traidcraft products, and listen to the spiritual songs of Andrea Encinas, Arts Director of British Gospel Arts.
